Checklist for Major Assignment #1

As you write and revise your project, be sure that you have completed the following:

  • Defined clearly and precisely the terms genre, audience, and purpose
  • Selected  one source from the course list of readings for the project
  • Analyzed the source in your project, rather than merely summarized it, using appropriately the key terms of genre, audience, and purpose
  • Provided meaningful topic sentences for each paragraph, preparing your readers for the Big Idea of that paragraph
  • Begun to develop a theory of writing–let’s call it The Big Idea– that makes connections among the concepts of genre, audience, and purpose
  • Used MLA format
    • Included in-text citations for the borrowed passages you have
      • Quoted
      • Paraphrased
      • Summarized
    • Included an MLA-formatted Works Cited list
  • Proofread carefully
  • Included a Post Write

Checklist for Major Assignment #2

As you write and revise your project, be sure that you have completed the following:

  • Stated a clear and relevant research question
  • Provided purposeful topic sentences for each paragraph, preparing your readers for the Big Idea of that paragraph
  • Provided meaningful transitions to make it easier for your reader to follow
  • Integrated within your essay the following:
    • At least three academic sources (that is, peer-reviewed)
    • At least two popular media sources (such as a TED Talk or an post on Buzzfeed) relevant to your topic.
  • Have edited the document for tone appropriate to the target audience and purpose
  • Introduced the sources that you plan to use appropriately for the audience of your project, taking care to use signal phrases
  • Included in-text citations for the borrowed passages you have
    • Quoted
    • Paraphrased
    • Summarized
  • Provided an MLA-formatted Works Cited page
  • Proofread carefully
  • Included a Post Write

Checklist for Major Assignment #3

As you write and revise your project, be sure that you have

  • Created a composition using three different genres taken from the list given, one of which must be an infographic
  • Followed the conventions or requirements of each genre
  • An infographic, with
    •  a clear, focused  message
    • relevant data
    • an appealing design, appropriate to your subject and audience
  • Focused on the same, general topic as your research essay
  • Provided reliable access to all genres, with clear resolution to view graphics
  • Used a minimum of five sources, three of which may be from your research essay and additional sources may be of your own choosing
  • Targeted a specific audience and tailored your rhetorical strategy to that particular audience
  • Included a rationale that gives reasons why you chose the genre, states your purpose, and connects the genre with a particular audience
  • Cited your sources and provided a Works Cited list in MLA format with a minimum of five sources (three from Essay #2 may count here) appropriate to the audience you define in your audience strategy
  • Included a Post Write
